Kinja'd!!!

Went to the auto show last night, it was pretty cool. We never get any reveals and generally don’t get any of the interesting things that have already been revealed. I mean, Mercedes didn’t even bother to come. This is not an important show. But we got an actual DB5 movie car!

Kinja'd!!!

So that was pretty neat.

A friend of mine works at a custom shop, and they were invited to bring two of their current builds along. Neither are totally finished, but they’re still really cool.

This one has an old Corvette 283, and modified boat exhaust. They both have rather intense suspension situations, of which I do not remember the details. This one also has side/rear mounted radiators.

This one I know more about. It’s a Model A body, with a 12v Cummins running a 58mm turbo, in theory making 800ft/lbs and 400hp. The customer specified a Model A that could run 12s in the 1/4, and also tow his show car. This thing is rated for 10,000lbs now.

Oh and that’s a 5 speed manual. I like these things.

So now onto less rat rod things.

Kinja'd!!!

Purple Porsche.

Kinja'd!!!

Martini 918. Yes please.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

A Lexus that I don’t hate. They had some godawful concepts here too. A hideous convertible, and something that looks like a decepticon had its way with a renault twizy. No pictures because I don’t want to burn anyones eyes.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

The only Ferraris that I actually stopped for.

Kinja'd!!!

The Giulia looks large and questionable in person. I hope to see them on the road, just to shake things up instead of the never-ending stream of F30s.

Oh sweet jesus yes. This is the best thing here, by far. Excuse me while I hhnnnnggggg

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

So yeah. I didn’t many pictures because everything else was pretty boring. A maelstrom of ugly Hondas and Toyotas, annoying FCA speakers, a Fiat 124 that wasn’t the rally version, some more 4Cs as always, your regular assortment of exotics with shitty decals and 15 year olds yelling about which is better. Uhh the GTi has a nice interior, new BMW build quality is scarily bad, the Jags and LRs look amazing, the ATS-V is still my favourite in its segment, and I really like the Fiesta ST just from sitting in one. Shifter is pleasing, and dear lord the seats and phenomenal. This has been my quickly condensed opinions after a short auto show visit, thanks for looking!

A rat rod rated to tow, so they basically made up a number and went with it?

I assume it has to do with the assumed capabilities of the engine, and whatever the chassis they’re using is known to handle. I didn’t ask, though.

It was nice to see the 2000GT, Giulia, and Ferrari Row. Highlights for me too.

No Mercedes? And NO VOLVO!?! That’s why I went. I didn’t see the need to go to the website beforehand and confirm that VOLVO was going to display! WTF

/end rant

Yeah I was really not pleased about no Volvo, forgot to include that. At least there was the one XC90 upstairs in a gorgeous blue.....I really wanted to see the S or V 90 though.

A friend and I go every year. For the last few years it’s been most fun to compare the Mercs to the Volvos. With this in mind and thinking the 90 would be there, I was really looking forward to it. Not sure if I’ll go next year...

Edit: Did you see a Mazda2?

Yeah I would imagine so, their quality is getting really impressive again. I might go next year, but I really hope we get more things, this year didn’t even have as much interesting stuff to look at as last year.

I had edited my last reply and asked if you saw a Mazda2. Thought it weird that I sat in one last year, but didn’t see it this time. Just did a google and saw this:

driving.ca/mazda/auto-news/news/mazda2-no-longer-coming-to-canada

Missed that news, aaaand, that sucks.

Lol, I did the real/toy car thing a few weekends ago. I brought my 1/18th Aventador to a car museum and put it next to a real Aventador!

Kinja'd!!!

I used my Mr. Regular voice which was probably pretty creepy to everyone around me!

And I completely understand the “forgotten car show” feeling having gone to school in Pittsburgh. I’m so glad to be back in NY.

Oh I didn’t know that, that’s rather lame....I was at the Mazda spot, but mostly talking to a friend who was working the booth. All their offerings are looking excellent in person

Volvo’s out because they drastically cut down their marketing budget. They only attend three shows worldwide now: NY, Geneva, and Frankfurt, IIRC. (former) Docksteader was who brought that XC90 to the show...

But no Benz was a letdown. The unlocked G-wagen they had last year was tons of fun!
